2007 July 25: Harry Vasconcellos

Harry Vasconcellos known to his Osco Drug colleagues as ‘Vass’, passed away on July 25, 2007, at the age of 89 years.Vass grew up in the Des Moines, Iowa area and held a degree in Pharmacy from DrakeUniversity.During World War II he served in the United States Army in dietetics, as a pharmacist and as a navigator on B-24’s in the European arena.While in the Army Vas met and married Edythe Anderson on August 12, 1942.Following his tour of duty, Vass joined his wife in Waterloo, Iowa and was hired by Self Service Drug, Inc., which later became Osco Drug, to work as a pharmacist in their fifth store.He became the manager of that store and trained many of those who were the heart and soul of Osco Drug.Upon retirement the couple moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where they enjoyed many wonderful years together – celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary in 2006.Edythe died on February 11, 2007.Their final resting place is in Rowley, Iowa.
