Dorothy L. Finley, age 72, was born September 11, 1939 to the late Fred E. and Dorothy Marie (Roseby) Smith in Wrightsville, Arkansas.
Her parents, three brothers, Fred E. Smith, Jr., Larry Smith and Herbert J. Smith preceded her in death. Dorothy was educated in the public schools of Wrightsville, Arkansas and was a graduate of J. C. Cook High School. She furthered her education at Penn Valley Community College. In 1965, she was united in holy matrimony to Henry E. Finley and one son was born to that union.
In 1967, Dorothy moved to Kansas City and joined Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Dr. Wallace S. Hartsfield, Sr. She remained a dedicated servant serving in the Choir, Baptist Training Union, Senior Women Missionary Union, Boy Scouts Troop #56, New Members Committee and the Scholarship Committee and as a Sunday School Intermediate teacher. Dorothy was employed at Amoco Oil Company until she retired in 1990. She later worked part time at Osco Drugs later renamed CVS at 63rd & Prospect until 2010. Dorothy departed this life on December 3, 2011 at Research Medical Center.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted husband, Henry E. Finley; one son, Keith A. Finley of Kansas City, MO; one step-daughter, LaShell Smith (Shane) of Little Rock, AR; four brothers, Freddie L. Smith (Elizabeth) and Odell Hudson (Dorothy), of Detroit, MI, Carl E. Smith and Gordon D. Smith (Clarice) of Little Rock, AR; three sisters, Juanita Hollowell of Shawnee, KS, Dianne Miller (Eric) and Norma Jean Butler (Luther) all of Little Rock, AR; two grandchildren, three great grandchildren, longtime friend Judy Thomas and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Thursday, December 15, at 11:00 a.m. at Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church.
