2012 March 19: Dorothy Hurrie

Dorothy J. (Hutchinson) Hurrie of Weymouth, passed away March 19, 2012, at the age of 100.


Dot was raised in Winthrop, graduating from Winthrop High School. She later lived in Braintree for 45 years before moving to Weymouth in 1997. She worked as a photo technician for Alves Photo for many years. Dot was awarded Braintree Council on Aging Volunteer of the Year several times. She often helped to run trips for seniors. She also volunteered for the Massachusetts Respiratory Hospital. Dot was a kind, caring and generous woman who will be sadly missed by her family. Beloved wife of 36 years to the late Thomas Hurrie, she was the devoted mother of Dorothy Torrey and her husband Leonard of Braintree, Patricia Cahoon and her husband William of Braintree, Margo Goodrow and her husband Robert of Weymouth and the late Jane Hurrie; cherished Gram of four grandchildren and the late Lisa Chamberlain; and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by seven sisters and one brother and lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews. A memorial Mass was held March 29, in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Braintree. Burial was private. Donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to either the Alzheimer's Association ., Mass.
