Long term alumni club member Betty M. Ballew-Allen, age 90, of Billings, MT. died Sunday, October 14, 2012 at Aspen Meadows. She was the daughter of Richard & Marie Ballew & was born October 30, 1921. She graduated from the Moulton High School in Moulton, Iowa in 1939. She would later attend Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. and Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. On April 25, 1981 she was united in marriage to Craig Allen in West Dundee, IL.
For 33 years she was a part of the Osco Drug family & loved working there. She was the founder of the Elgin Alzheimer's Family Support Group in Elgin, IL.; served on the Board of Directors of the Chicago Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association; served on the Board of Directors for the Elgin, IL. YWCA & was once elected Woman of the Year at the YWCA. Betty served 21/2 years in Costa Rica with the Latin American Mission Board. Betty loved to speak Spanish & later enjoyed teaching English As A Second Language at the YWCA. She also enjoyed traveling with groups to Europe, Russia, Egypt, Israel, & Mexico on many occasions. Betty loved music, art, nature, reading, crossword puzzles, & enjoyed a beautiful butterfly collection.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Craig T. Allen on July 20, 1987; and a brother, George G. Ballew. She is survived by: Step children, Mary Jane Cope (Jay) of Barrington, IL., William Allen (Mary) of Boca Raton, FL., James Allen (Pat) of Three Rivers, MI.; brothers John Richard Ballew (Frances) of Des Moines, IA. and Jim Ballew (Jean) of Centerville, IA.; sister-in-law Ruby Ballew of Moberly, MO.; nephews Tom Ballew of Moberly, MO., Steve Ballew of Romeo, MI., Dan Hargrave of Centerville, IA.; nieces Judith Foster of Billings, MT., Mary Voris of Halfway, MO., Sandra Reeves and Debra Burford both of Des Moines, IA.
Graveside services will be held October 26, 2012 at Sunset View Cemetery in Moulton, IA.
