2013 April 1: Marcella Cormier

Marcella Cormier, 82, a longtime Maynard resident and Gardner native, died peacefully Mon. April 1, 2013 at the Apple Valley Center in Ayer. She was the beloved wife of the late Herve P. Cormier, to whom she was married 55 years at the time of his death in July, 2006.


Born and raised in Gardner, she was the daughter of the late Dolor E. and Priscilla (Kennedy) Benoit. A hairdresser for a time before her marriage in 1950, Mrs. Cormier eventually settled with her family in Maynard, Massachusetts in 1961 following Mr. Cormier’s Navy service. In the early years Mrs. Cormier worked at Dennison Manufacturing in the Maynard Mill, and every weekend organized a family trip to visit relatives in Gardner. For many years she was also a machine operator and assistant at her husband’s machine shop, but is best remembered locally for her many years as First Cashier at Osco Drug in Acton, Massachusetts. She liked time spent in her yard gardening, birdwatching and enjoying nature. In later years Mr. and Mrs. Cormier liked to travel to Las Vegas, and Mrs. Cormier especially loved attending yard sales, shopping, and the company of her son Wayne's dog, "Vegas."


She is survived by four children: Renee Trakimas and Wayne Cormier, both of Lunenburg, Daniel Cormier of Townsend, and Brenda Barros of Lunenburg; 6 grandchildren, Melissa and Jason Trakimas, Amanda and Jeffrey Cossette, and Jeffery and Danielle Cormier; and two brothers, Dolor Benoit of Fitchburg and Richard Benoit of Westminter.


Visiting hours will be held Fri, April 5th from 4-8pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Sat, April 6th at 9am in St. Bridget’s Church, 1 Percival St, Maynard, with burial following in Glenwood Cemetery, Great Rd. (Rte 117) Maynard.
