2013 December 23: Jean Moir Woolley

Jean Moir Woolley, 97, a longtime resident of Redondo Beach, passed away on December 23, 2013 at Driftwood Healthcare Center.


She was married to the late Donald P. Woolley, the superintendent of the South Coast Botanical Garden in Palos Verdes. She was the daughter of the late William B. and Maude Treadway Moir of Redondo Beach. She is survived by her sister, Sara Moir Marshall of Pittsburgh, PA; sister-in-law Maria G. Moir of Yuma, AZ; nephew Matthew Marshall of Etna, NH; and niece Sara M. Knight of W. Hartford, CT. She was predeceased by her brother, William B. Moir, Jr. of Yuma, AZ. Mrs. Woolley graduated from Margaret Morrison Carnegie College for Women, now a part of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority.


After settling in Southern California, she worked at the Savon Pharmacy Headquarters for many years. She belonged to the Gardeneers Garden Club and was an award winning flower arranger. She excelled in crafts of all kinds, especially weaving and the making of Swedish paper stars. She was a volunteer at South Bay Hospital. White and Day Mortuary of Redondo Beach is handling the funeral arrangements. Services will be private. The family wish to thank Milestone Hospice in Torrance for their care and attention during the past months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Milestone Hospice, 1500 Crenshaw Blvd., Torrance, CA 90501.
