LaVon Fred Duce, another fallen hero of the “Greatest Generation”, joined family and friends on the other side January 15th, 2013.
Von Duce was born August 8th 1920, in Hyde Park, Utah. He was the forth oldest to a family of eight born to his parents Fred Duce and Mabel Balls. His sisters Lucille Nelson and Ileen Christensen are still living. Preceded by his brothers Bill and Scott Duce and sisters Mary Dornbos, Daphney Hancey, and Afton Broadstone. Von was an alumnus from Utah State University. While working in Star Valley, Wyoming, he met his sweetheart Wanda Bower. They were married February 28th 1942. Shortly after their marriage, he joined The U.S. Marine Corp and served proudly for four years in WWII. Von and Wanda worked and raised their children in California. Von had many professions anywhere from working long days as a rancher in Lancaster, CA. to working long nights as a Sav-on Drug manager at different locations throughout San Fernando Valley in Southern California.
After retirement, Von and Wanda moved to Kanab, UT, where he received his realtor’s license and sold real estate until their move in 2008 to North Odgen Utah. After 92 years, Von leaves a lovely posterity, a daughter, Marsha (Lonnie) Lonczyna and a son Roger Duce, who was killed in Viet Nam in 1968.
Von has eight grandchildren, David (Izvora) Duce, Amie (Ashley) Longford, Leanne, Alisa, Brian, Christy, Russell Lonczyna, Lara (Jose) Leon, Also 7 grandchildren; Kianna Ruark, Keiran and Chloe Longford, Zeus and Zorba Duce, Alexander and Ava Leon. His daughter-in-law Colleen Duce lives in Adelaide Australia. As well as numerous nieces and nephews that were close to Uncle Von. All Family and friends are invited to a viewing Monday, January 21st 2013 at 10:00am in the LDS meeting house Relief Society room at 2360 N. 600 W. North Ogden. A service will follow at 11:00am with interment at Hype Park, Utah Cemetery at 1:00pm. The family expresses love and appreciation to the hospice staff of HCNU for their tender care of our best friend. Also thanks to the angel that came to our aide Kesa Fanigupo.
