2013 March 2: Eloise Sailor

Eloise L. Sailor, 82, of Elkhart, died at 1:14 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Florida Hospital Waterman in Tavares, Fla., after a brief illness.

Mrs. Sailor, the daughter of Robert and Helen (Herrington) Fruchey, was born March 23, 1930, in Elkhart. She married Albert L. Sailor on Sept. 4, 1949, in Elkhart. Surviving are two sons, Robert L. (Jenny) Sailor of Berrien Center, Mich., and Stephen D. Sailor of Elkhart; a daughter, Debra S. Sailor of Elkhart; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Frances Wilson of Elkhart and Eleanor Jones of Camino, Calif. Mrs. Sailor was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Sailor; her son, Jeffrey Sailor; and a brother, David Fruchey. Mrs. Sailor worked for Elkhart Community Schools as head cashier at West Side Middle School for more than 20 years. After retiring from West Side, she worked at Osco Drug for 10 more years until full retirement. For many years, Eloise and her husband enjoyed tending to a garden and sales booth with fresh fruit and vegetables from their home in Elkhart. Eloise loved to travel and enjoyed many cruises to the Caribbean and South America. She had visited China and had been to all the 50 United States. She loved Florida, and visited there annually starting in the ’70s, until becoming a “snow bird” in Tavares in the ’90s. Eloise was a member of New Salem United Methodist Church since the ’60s, making many friends there. She enjoyed being a part of the church and was an active member. Eloise was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013, and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013, service celebrating Eloise’s life at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. The Rev. Michael Jenkins will officiate. Burial will follow in Rice Cemetery. Donations may be given to New Salem United Methodist Church, 52173 Ash Road, Granger, IN 57630.
