David Paul Zanardi, age 67, of Grand Rapids, MN, died Saturday, November 9, 2013, at Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital.
David was born in 1946 to Therese and Carl Zanardi in Laurium, Michigan. He grew up in Chisholm, MN and graduated from Chisholm High School in 1964. David attended Hibbing Junior College for 2 years, where he met his wife, Charlotte, and then attended University of St. Thomas for 2 years before going to Pharmacy School at North Dakota State University at Fargo, ND, graduating in 1970.
David was a pharmacist and store manager for Osco Drug for many years in Minnesota, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan and Illinois, before moving back to the Iron Range to Grand Rapids in 1985 to be close to family. In 1985, he bought Nordby Drug in Grand Rapids and worked there until 1994. David then worked as a pharmacist at K-Mart and Wal-Mart in both Grand Rapids and Hibbing before retiring in 2011. He currently worked part-time for Baron’s Pharmacy in Hibbing.
David’s happiest days were those spent at the cabin on South Surgeon Lake in Hibbing, working on building projects with his good friend, Dave Rumer, watching ESPN and sports on TV, watching his daughter Carole play and coach sports, being a pharmacist, and in recent years, spending time with his dogs, Cosmo and Jack.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Dennis Zanardi; uncle, Walter Bo, and parents-in-law, Chary and Donald Galley.
David is survived by his wife, Charlotte of Grand Rapids, MN; daughter, Carole of Duluth, MN; sisters-in-law, Anita Zanardi and Chris (Dave) Nelson and their children; brothers-in-law, Tom (Arnell) Galley and Fred (Julie) Galley and their children; nephew, Jim (Jill) Zanardi and niece, Denise (Bill) Weber and their children; aunt, Jeanice Bo; cousins, Karen (Rick) Eklund, Mary Chavis, Kathy (Phil) Lane and their children.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 14th from 10 am until the 11 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grand Rapids. Rev. Fr. Jerry Weiss will officiate. Burial will be in Itasca-Calvary in Grand Rapids, MN.
Special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff on the Oncology floor and Cancer Center at Essentia Health, St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth and at the Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital in Grand Rapids. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
