2014 December 5, 2014: Joan Maxine (Booker) Baker

Joan Maxine (Booker) Baker, 74, died at 2:25 pm, Friday, December 5, 2014 at St. John’s Intensive Care Unit.

She was born March 4, 1940 in Springfield, to Fred and Eilene (Ramalow) Grobelnik. She is survived by two sons, James (Cheri) Baker and Timothy (Jan) Baker, one daughter, Tammy Baker; five grandchildren: Melissa (Wes) Smith, Timothy Jr., Joshua, Elizabeth (Matthew) Seago and Matthew (Kersten) Baker; two great-grandchildren: Hope and Faith Donnelly; one brother, Robert (Lillie) Grobelnik; one sister, Penny Bush; two sisters-in-law: Rhonda (Freddie) Grobelnik and Jayne (Tony) Angeli; one brother-in-law, Dick Micko and several nieces and nephews, all of Springfield. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Baker; sister, Linda Micko and brother, Freddie Grobelnik. Joan was a member of St. Cabrini Catholic Church. She worked at Osco Drug until retirement and was a winner of many plaques that honored her abilities. She was also an avid TV watcher of judge shows and Dr. Phil. In the summer she took great pride in watering and trimming her roses and flowers. Joan loved giving gifts and watching while her children and grandchildren opened presents. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends Karen, Patty, Annie and Butch. They referred to themselves as Butch and his four “Golden Girls.” She enjoyed sitting on the porch and talking with her friends and taking her dog, Peabody, on walks with her friends and their four-legged companions.
