Ruby Jean Black was born July 24, 1926 and passed away in her Roseville, Calif., home on June 10, 2014. She joins her eternal sweetheart of 60 years, Richard.Jean was a long time resident of Mission Hills, Calif., before coming to Roseville, Calif., eight years ago.
She was one of nine children and grew up on a farm, helping to raise her brothers and sisters. She had only one love in her life and after being married in 1944, they moved from the cold Idaho winters to sunny Southern California. She was in her early 20's when she became a seamstress, which she was especially good at. Along the way she began raising a family. Jean had many talents, but what she loved most was her hand work and crocheting. In her life, she made hundreds of blankets, each family member receiving this precious gift. She had a generous and giving heart and felt fortunate in her life and shared with others along the way.
After raising her family, she decided to "go to work" at the age of 55; she worked at Savon Drug Store in Sylmar, Calif. She retired after 25 years of service and was always proud to say that she never missed a day of work.
She brought friendship and happiness to the people she came in contact with. Jean has had some very special friendships, some that have spanned her entire life.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where she served in many areas; at the age of 82 she volunteered to serve for 12 months in the Roseville, Calif., Mission office. Jean had an adventuresome spirit; traveling throughout the U.S. was one of her favorite things. Besides traveling she enjoyed reading, gardening, and watching sports, but what she loved the most was spending time with her ever growing family.
She is survived by: her children, Barbara (Dan) of Roseville, Calif., Cathie (Glen) of Newcastle, Calif., Gary (Lorena) of West Jordan, Utah, Michael (Barbara) Memphis, Tenn., Patrick of West Jordan, Utah, Eddie (Linda) Elk Ridge, Utah, her 26 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold and Dick, and one sister, Beverly.
