Leola I. Boren, 78, ofCedar Rapids passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House inHiawatha. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held Thursday with certified celebrant Julie Freese officiating.
Leola Irene Boren was born Nov. 19, 1935, to Eugene L. and Dolores M (Miner) McCormick in Iowa City, Iowa. She attended school in Olin, Monticello and Springville and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids in 1953. She was united in marriage to Dale E. Boren on June 27, 1953, in Anamosa. They lived in Tacoma, Wash., while Dale was in the Army then moved back to Cedar Rapids. In 1983, they moved to Marion and back to their home in Cedar Rapids in 2002.
Leola worked through the transitions of Mays Drug, Revco, Reliable, Osco and CVS, as a cosmetologist from 1957 until her retirement in 2000. She will be remembered for her acceptance toward others, selflessness, forgiveness and willingness to always help someone in need. Leola will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Larry) Ryan; and son, Rodney Boren, both of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, JoAnn Merta of Marion and Evelyn Cheesbrough of Loveland, Colo.; two half brothers, Steven Page of Richmond, Va., and Gary Mullins; close cousin, Clorene Kray; and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Leola was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale Boren in 2008; son, Robert Boren in 1988; and brother, Laverne McCormick in 2007.
