2014 March 20: Margaret Wichman

Margaret H. Wichman, 82, of Freeport, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at the home of her daughter, Sherry. She was born on August 14, 1931, in Rockford, IL to Arnold and Helen (Gill) Campbell.


She married Donald K. Wichman on October 13, 1951, at Pecatonica United Methodist Church; Donald passed away on March 28, 1986. Margaret graduated from Pecatonica High School in 1949. She worked at Osco Drug, Northwest Telephone Company, Grant's Food Center, and Micro Switch. She was a member of Park Hills Evangelical Free Church. She volunteered for Contact, and various activities at Park Hills Evangelical Free Church. Her and her husband were involved with the United Cerebral Palsy Group of Northwest Illinois during the 1960's and 1970's.


Margaret enjoyed gardening, going to garage sales with friends, Bible studies, grocery shopping, watching soap operas, Wheel of Fortune, The Lawrence Welk Show, and the Hour of Power, doing word searches, spending time with her "kids, grandkids, and great-grand baby", Chicago Bulls, particularly Michael Jordan fan, going out to eat with her classmates from Pecatonica High School. Ray Price was her all-time favorite singer and she enjoyed going to many of his concerts.


Margaret is survived by her two daughters, Sherry Wichman and Susan McKillip, both of Freeport; her grandson, Brett McKillip of Freeport; her granddaughters, Stacy (Dan) Scheid of Nevada, IA, and Kasse (Brandon) Espeseth of Mitchville, IA; her great-granddaughter, Sophie Jo Scheid of Nevada, IA; her stepbrothers, Dan (Diane) Campbell of Harrison, IL, and Gary (Barb) Campbell of Charleston, SC; her step-sister, Donna Figi of Belvidere, IL; her special little poodle-Mike; and her caregiver, Ruth Isaacson of Cedarville, IL. Margaret was predeceased by her husband; her son, Steven D. on October 25, 1988; and her parents. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2014, at Park Hills Evangelical Free Church, with Pastor Mark Balmer officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport. A memorial has been established in her memory.
