Lucille J. Sherwood, 98, of Janesville, died Sunday, November 9, 2014, at Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center.
She was born in Spring Valley Township on Dec. 12, 1915, the daughter of Claude and Ida (Tollefsrud) Grenawalt and was a 1933 graduate of Janesville High School. Lucille married Charles R. Sherwood on Sept. 12, 1936, in Janesville, and he preceded her in death on March 27, 1972. She had been employed by Rexall, Snyder and Osco Drug for many years before retiring on her 85th birthday.
Lucille was a member of First Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her 3 daughters: Nancy Flanders of Mountain View, CA, Jane Peterson of Janesville, and Betsy (Dennis) Schumacher of Milton; 8 grandchildren: Steven (Jody Lieb) Flanders, Patrick (Jen) Flanders, Allison Flanders, Krissa (John) Jacobson, Amy Peterson, Jenny (Jason) Kelly, Natalie (Stephen) Pearson and Alexa (Joshua) Herz; 13 great grandchildren: Kennedy, Aidan, Declan, Rory, Harry, Hugh, George, Joseph, Benjamin, Olivia, Lucy, Gus, and Oliver; as well as nieces, Kathleen (Paul) Mix and Barbara (Charles) Hicks; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Marjorie Riley; and son-in-law, Robert Peterson.
A Celebration of Lucille's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014 at FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH with Rev. James Melvin and Rev. Naomi Garber officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services at FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church. The family is being assisted by the SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORY.
