Eugene A. "Gene" Schoenbeck, 85, of Arlington Heights was born April 8, 1929 in Arlington Heights to the late Arthur and Pearl (nee Scharringhausen) Schoenbeck and passed away September 28, 2014 after 5 years of suffering through Alzheimer’s disease.
Gene Schoenbeck was a 25+ year Jewel/Turn*Style/Osco employee. He started as a meat-cutter in a Jewel in Arlington Heights IL in 1950. He served his country honorably as a Marine in the Pacific during the Korean conflict. He returned to Jewel to join the fledgling Jewel Food Stores Security team as an Investigator . In 1965 he was asked to lead the Loss Prevention team at Turn*Style, where he led a large team of LP professionals across the midwest. Turn*Style was later absorbed by Osco Drug where he reported to Ron Green and worked out of 3030. Dad joined Venture Stores when Turn*Style was sold. He later became the Vice President of Loss Prevention at Talman Home Savings & Loan until he retired in the mid 90s. He hired and mentored many of the Jewel Companies loss prevention professionals where he was known for his leadership in prevention vs. apprehension concepts. Gene was the beloved husband of the late Ruth nee Roloff; loving father of David (Ellen) Schoenbeck, Dale (Mary) Schoenbeck and Daniel (Michele) Schoenbeck; cherished grandfather of Katy, Caryn, Christoph, Tom (Krysta), Paul (Mary Kate), Michael, Emily, Maggie, Ann Marie and Renee; great-grandfather of Olivia and Jack and dear brother of Carolyn "Joy" (late Robert) Reptowski and the late Jack (late Lorraine) Schoenbeck. Gene will also be greatly missed by his loving caregiver and partner for 7 years Joan Parker. Visitation will be Friday, October 3, 2014 from 3-8 PM at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 E. Northwest Highway and Saturday, October 4 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 1234 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights from 12:00 noon until time of funeral service 1:00 PM.
