Hoyt O. Smith, 87, residing in Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away at 9:45 PM Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at Kindred Valley View Nursing Home, Elkhart.
Hoyt was born on December 27, 1927, in Kennett, Missouri, to the late Emery Smith and Nellie Francis (Lemonds) Smith, and had lived in this area since 1994. Hoyt graduated from Kennett High School, Kennett, MO, and later from the University of Missouri. On May 7, 1988, in West Lafayette, IN, Hoyt was united in marriage to Sandra K. Smith, who survives. Hoyt worked as a regional manager for Lafayette Life Insurance Company for 10 years, retiring in 1994.
He also enjoyed delivering prescriptions for Osco Drug stores. He attended First United Methodist Church, Mishawaka, and previously was a member of the Masonic Lodge in St. Louis, MO. Hoyt is survived by his loving wife, Sandra K. Smith of Mishawaka; daughters, Kelly (Jeff) Metzger of Elkhart, IN, Laura (Mark) Hossler of Plainfield, IN, and Sara D. Smith of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Ryan Hossler, Alaina Hossler and Alicia Cuzzocrea. Hoyt was preceded in death by his sister, Jonell Norman, and his brother, Dale Smith. A private memorial service for Hoyt O. Smith will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Children's Hospital, 30 S.
