2015 July 30: Valerie Lynn Ostic


Valerie Lynn Ostic, age 30, of Janesville, died suddenly on Thursday, July 30, 2015, in Lincoln, Nebraska after suffering a heart attack caused by a pulmonary embolism.


She was returning from a family reunion in Estes Park, Colorado. She was born in Janesville on Feb. 11, 1985, the daughter of Keith and Marjorie (TeSelle) Ostic. Valerie grew up surrounded by teachers. Her father Keith taught art at Marshall Junior High School and Craig High School. Her mother Marjorie taught Spanish at Parker High School. Valerie attended Washington Elementary School and Franklin Junior High.


She graduated in 2003 from Parker High School where she was a member of the Spanish Honor Society, the Art Honor Society, and the National Honor Society. Her friends remember Valerie as a very caring person devoted to serving others. At Parker, she participated in the Key Club and the Ribbon of Promise program to help end school violence. She attended the University of Wisconsin-Rock County and UW Whitewater, where she was majoring in psychology and minoring in sociology to prepare for a career in counseling, especially for rape victims. She had been employed as a pharmacy technician for Osco Drug in Janesville, and was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Janesville.

Valerie is survived by her parents; Keith and Marjorie (TeSelle) Ostic of Janesville; adopted brother, Alexander Braukhoff of Janesville; longtime partner, David Heinrich of Janesville; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; godmothers, Linda Wyss and Georgia Christner; aunt, Wanda TeKolste; uncle, Carl Ostic; and Carl and Dorothy Wyss.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, at ST. MARK LUTHERAN CHURCH, Janesville. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or Rotary Botanical Gardens.
