Michael E. Lokensgard, 80, of Mankato, passed away on March 29, 2015.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., April 11, 2015 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Mankato, MN. Visitation will be April 10, from 4-7 p.m., at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at the church. He was born July 18, 1934 at home in Cleveland, MN to Herbert Olaf (H.O.) and Emelia Lokensgard. He was the youngest child with 4 older sisters. In 1941 at the age of 7, he moved with his family to El Reno, OK where his father found work at the Federal Penitentiary. Mike graduated from El Reno High School in 1952 and Southwest Oklahoma State University with a pharmacy degree in 1956. After the death of his father, he and his mother relocated to St. Peter, MN where he worked as a pharmacist at Faust Drug. In 1962 he married Judith Carlson and together they made their home in Mankato, MN. They had one son and one daughter. Over the years, Mike worked at Eckland Drug, Osco Drug, and Lewis Eastgate Pharmacy, all in Mankato. In 1985 Mike realized his lifelong dream of owning a Drug Store when he obtained Crystal Drug in Lake Crystal, MN. He retired in 2007. In 1962 Mike and Judy joined Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato, MN where they remained lifelong members. Through the years, Mike was active on the church council, taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and played his baritone for special music. He enjoyed many forms of music, playing the harmonica and saw, in addition to his baritone. Mike spent many summers playing his baritone in both the Mankato Municipal Band as well as the Lake Crystal Community Band. After retiring he also joined the MN Over 60 Band in the summer, and the Mankato State University-Community Band during the academic year. Over the years, Mike was active in the YMCA Mens' Group, the Boy Scouts, the Lake Crystal Lions, and the Sons of Norway. After retiring, he enjoyed weekly chess matches with several gentlemen. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Charlotte Lokensgard and Marjorie Larson. He is survived by his former wife, Judy Lokensgard, East Grand Forks, MN; children: Rolf (Mia) Lokensgard, Wayzata, MN, Karin (Dave) Lokensgard Pierce, Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren, Megan, Madeline, and Ryan Lokensgard, Joshua and Daniel Pierce; sisters: Phyllis Annexstad, St. Peter, MN and Natalie Thiele, Lakeland, FL. Many extended family and his 4-footed companions, Felix and Oscar.
