2015 May 11: Richard Dean Petersen

Richard Dean Petersen, 84 passed away peacefully on May 10, 2015 after his gallant battle with Lewy Body Dementia, his wife Bonnie Mary Parkos Petersen, 79 passed away hours later on May 11, 2015 after her courageous battle with cancer, both at their home in Litchfield Park, Arizona.


Dick was born May 26, 1930 in Fulda, Minnesota. to Edward and Margaret (Breen) Petersen. He served in the US Army, from 1951-1953 and graduated from South Dakota State with a degree in Pharmacy. He worked for his brother Edward at Payant Drug in downtown Faribault. Bonnie was born Jan 8, 1936 in Faribault. to George and Cecelia (Lemieux) Parkos. She worked for Dr. Paul Bauer in Faribault as a medical assistant. They moved to Arizona in 1961, where Bonnie served her family dutifully as a homemaker. She returned to work for Dr. Paul Bauer after he moved his practice to Arizona. She finished her career with Banner Health at a dermatology office in Sun City. Dick worked for Skaggs Drug Store until they closed.


He finished his career with Osco Drug Store. They are survived by their daughter Lori Kniphuisen (Rich), sons Scott Petersen (Angel) and Gregory Petersen (Karen); grandchildren Mason and Garret Petersen; and Bonnie's sisters Kay Parkos Kane (Dennis), Midge Parkos and Carrol Parkos. Dick is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Ethelyn Nelson, Lowell Petersen, Roger Petersen, and W. Edward Petersen. Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Gerald and William Parkos. A Celebration of Life will be held in Litchfield Park, Arizona. Dick's final resting place will be at Meadow Ridge Memorial Park, Faribault. Bonnie's final resting place will be at Eastside Memorial Park, Minden, Nevada. Donations can be made in their honor to the Alzheimer's Society or Horizon Hospice.
