2015 May 24: Sara Kathryn Bontrage

Sara Kathryn Bontrager, 77, of Elkhart, IN passed away at Golden Living Center of Mishawaka on Sunday, May 24.


She was born Aug. 3, 1937, in Eagle Lake Station, Ky., to the late William Luther and Nannie B. Welch.


Surviving are her children, Keith (Pamela) Bontrager of Indianapolis, Tammy (Richard) Barna of St. Petersburg, Fla., Gary Bontrager of Elkhart and Ramona (Bill) Craypo of LaPorte; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Her parents and five sisters preceded her in death.


In accordance with her wishes, Sara is to be cremated, and a memorial will take place at Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart with visitation beginning at 5 p.m. followed by a service at 7 p.m. Friday, May 29.


Sara worked many years at Elkhart’s Osco Drug Store and Martin’s Super Market and Elkhart’s New York Central Railroad Museum through the help of National Able Network, a job placement program for seniors.
