2016 June 1: Joyce Marilyn Preston

Joyce Marilyn Preston, of Fort Atkinson, and a longtime Freeport, Ill., resident and formerly of Stoughton, passed away peacefully at Marquardt Village in Watertown on June 1, 2016.


Joyce was born on Dec. 21, 1929, the sixth of seven children, on the Carlsen family farm in rural Spooner, the daughter of Laura and Conrad Carlsen.


Joyce was united in marriage to Marion L. Preston, the love of her life, in Dubuque, Iowa, on Nov. 1, 1947.


Joyce was a lifelong Packers and Badgers fan, and enjoyed playing euchre with her friends at Blackhawk Ridge Senior Apartments in Fort Atkinson. Joyce retired from Osco Drug in Freeport, III., where she greeted her customers with a warm smile and friendly talk.


Joyce is survived by her five children, Margo (Jim Salazar) Preston of Trevor, Brenda Bastien of Waterloo, Kevin (Connie) Preston of Sugar Land, Texas, Kerry (Dottie) Preston of Abilene, Texas, and Kyle (Kim) Preston of Lake Mills; grandchildren, Desi (Rick) Reale of Oregon, Wis., Levi and Nolan Preston of Dallas, Texas, Bryant Preston of Houston, Texas, Garrett Preston of Austin, Texas, and Allie and Laura Preston of Abilene, Texas; and great-grandchildren, McKenna Kuehl, Antonio and Christian Reale of Oregon, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Marion, on May 25, 1977.


A celebration of her life will be held in Freeport, Ill., at a date to be determined.
