2016 November 4: Nick Hughes

STERLING- Nick G. Hughes, 85, of Sterling, died Thursday, November 4, 2016 at CGH Medical Center.


Born August 7, 1931 in Sioux City, Iowa he was a son of John and Irene Hughes.

He married Nancee Hauser on January 22, 1955 in Fort Meyer, VA. She preceded him in death on April 20, 2012.


He served proudly in the US Army and was a pharmacist at the US Pentagon during his military service. He later worked as a sales representative for McKesson-Robbins. Nickwas a pharmacist with Eberley Pharmacy in Sterling from 1960 until they closed and later went to work in the pharmacy of Osco Drug later CVS Pharmacy. Nick was a master gardener with the University of Illinois Extension office of Whiteside County. He served as a tax aide for AARP. Nick was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling and served as a lector and usher. He fulfilled his bucketlist wish to ring the church bell at St. Mary Catholic Church.
