2026 February 22nd: Dorothy "Char" Millard

Dorothy "Char" Millard, 88, of Boone, Iowa passed away on Sunday, February 22, at Westhaven Community in Boone, Iowa. She had been a resident of Westhaven since August 2022.


Dorothy was born on February 20, 1938, in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Louise (Thorson) Sawyer. She graduated from Boone High School and continued her education at Boone Junior College and Drake University.


On August 20, 1960, she married Gerald "Jerry" Millard at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Boone, Iowa. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and community.


Dorothy had a deep love for learning and the arts. She found joy in playing the piano, painting, reading, and especially in teaching and tutoring children. She believed in nurturing young minds and encouraging others to pursue knowledge and creativity. Her quiet dedication to education and service left a lasting impression on many.


Dorothy is survived by her loving family: her husband, Gerald "Jerry" Millard of Boone, Iowa; her son TJ Millard and his wife Deirdre of Marietta, Georgia; their children Madeline (Millard) Pharr of Marietta wife of Macon Pharr, Georgia, and Sam Millard of Marietta, Georgia; her son Mike Millard and his wife Marian of Austin, Texas; their daughter Audrey Millard of Boston, Massachusetts; and her great-grandchild Parker Pharr of Marietta, Georgia.


She was preceded in death by her parents, and six siblings.


Dorothy's life was defined by devotion to her family, faith, and the simple but meaningful pursuits that enriched the lives of those around her. She will be remembered for her kindness, steady presence, and the love she gave so generously.
