It was a fantastically sunny 95 degree day as 8 resilient former retailers gathered on the patio. I went inside to the staff we need seating for 8 on the patio and the hostess cautioned that it is pretty hot outside and maybe inside would be more suitable. I replied that that she did not realize just how much these folks have been through and she said she was only going by our looks today. What a start. It was nice, a little warm, but nice. Many names were mentioned today: Ron Grove, Dick and Sandy Davis, Haven and Paul Ready, Bob Potter, Pat Johnston, Curt Larson, Chris Dimos and Patty Nelson. Cal Schwandt was a great surprise at the table and he did not disappoint. He is the only person I have heard of that ordered broccoli with his hamburger patty. Of course the waitress merely stood there and continued to wait while he looked for a second choice. As many of you know, Cal had a great versatile career and finished by practicing Pharmacy while attired in the most white and starched medical jacket available.
Stan Petersen was busy with his waffle and bacon while reminiscing with Cal, Tom Nielsen and Tim Sauer about all the experiences with other alumni…George Stearns is one name brought up. George is locally remembered for having his hand quietly moved from one of our past waitresses behinds. Tim Sauer is looking good and he and his wife and heading to Virginia to see their daughter and grandkids in a week. Nothing like family. Jerry Osterman is leaving for the midwest in about a week…always good to see him at these gatherings. Mark Panzer still has endless energy and keeps in touch with his past associates. He just talked with Chris Dimos and he was well…that reminds me, I talked with Greg Gullickson this week and he and his family are all healthy and happy. One son is in Southern California being successful in music business and lives in Manhattan Beach with his wife and two children. His older is in Charlotte and still practicing Orthopedic medicine and has 3 boys with the twins ready to graduate college. He enjoys his golf and his lake front home next to his son’s. John Spellman just returned from Hawaii a week ago and was present when some of the heavy rains hit. He indicated the Condo market in Maui has new guidance which makes rentals difficult and is creating challenges for owners…. Insurance expenses do not help.
It was a great grouping with all lingering to keep exchanging those stories they share so much.
I hope everyone has a wonderful day. Gerry
