2026 May 17th: Jack Wiltfang
Jack Eldean Wiltfang passed away surrounded with the love of his family on Sunday May 17th, 2026, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura, Ca.
Jack was born on a farm outside of Cook, Nebraska and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska. Jack enjoyed playing football and track among other sports as a youth in high school and college. He met his college sweetheart and the love of his life, Shelly, and they married on December 29th, 1960. He attended Nebraska Wesleyan University where he received his Bachelors of Arts degree before embarking on a career with Sav-on Drugs. Jack became a Store Manager and managed stores in South Gate, Cerritos, Los Altos and Lakewood. After he retired from Sav-on Drugs, Jack and Shelly opened a small business (J&R Wallpapering) of hanging wallpaper for over 20 years.
Jack loved camping and fishing for trout. He was also an avid snow skier and even took to the slopes of Mammoth Mountain at age 90. He also enjoyed golf, playing in senior softball leagues and started pickleball games at his church. Jack was highly active in his church, Ventura United Methodist Church, where he loved being a greeter, usher and volunteering.
Jack was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Jack was a loving husband whose quiet strength, generosity, friendship, and unwavering support shaped the lives of everyone who knew him. His wisdom, kindness and steady presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Neva Wiltfang and his brother Merle. Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Shelly, as well as son Robert and daughter Susan; grandchildren, Abby, Emma and Zack.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Ventura United Methodist Church on Saturday August 8th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ventura United Methodist Music Ministry or Jack Wiltfang memorial (ALS) at https://www.venturafumc.org/online-giving
