Donna Horn...The Horn family is doing great despite some losses and setbacks during the pandemic. I am working as the Ethics and Compliance Officer for Fresenius Medical Care North America (FMCNA), supporting the dialysis pharmacy and lab, after having worked at the not for profit Institute for Safe Medication Practices for 12 years. I love my new role at FMCNA- it is a natural progression for my career and I am able to use a lot of the skills and knowledge I gained while working with Larry and Jerry's team in Woburn.
I went back to school and earned my Masters Degree in Patient Safety at the Univ of Florida at age 57! For the last 4 years I have been teaching a graduate course in Medication Safety at UF every summer. I continue to work at MCPHS as a lab instructor and I continue to develop and record or write CE programs for pharmacists and techs (setting myself up for my retirement job!). My husband, Steve, honorary Osco alumni, (many of you may remember him in his role as pharmacy supervisor from when Osco was sold to Brooks) is currently working as an investigator at the MA Board of Pharmacy with fellow Osco alumni Rick Geaney. Pharmacy is a small world! We still live in Norwood Ma with our now adult children who have kept us company during the pandemic. My fondest memories at Osco include having the best pharmacy gross margin at #978 Brigham Circle pharmacy (38%!), when Jerry was named RPM and became my mentor and when he put my name forward and supported me to be a member of the MA Board of Pharmacy (life and career changing for me, and eventually Steve, for his current role!) and cursing all the way home from Woburn on Monday nights in traffic thinking I was never going to be home in time for the kids' babysitter- why did I worry so much?!
Most of our vacation time before pandemic was spent boating in the summer and using my parent's timeshare in St Maarten in the winter. This year we mixed it up and accompanied Judy and Herb Capron (both fellow Osco alumni) to Sao Miguel in the Azores for a week- best vacation so far! Judy kept us moving sun up to sun down traversing the island. The picture attached is from that trip, taken right after we finished a hike down to a lake created by a volcano. I look forward to reading about all of you on this website and I truly hope we can get together in person sometime soon!
