Narcan Approved for OTC Sales

The Food and Drug Administration has approved Narcan, prescription nasal spray that reverses opioid overdoses, to be sold over the counter.

• The FDA's move could save more lives by providing wider access to overdose medication.

• Public-health officials and treatment experts, had long sought OTC approval in the hope that wider availability of the medicine would reduce drug fatalities.

• There were more than 100,000 drug-related deaths in the United States for each of the past two years, according to the FDA.
