where Are They Now: Darnell Allen

It been 16 years since I retired from SUPERVALU. However, it has been a 41-year remarkable, fantastic, and enjoyable journey! I am not going to bore many of you by recapping those 41 years. I will let you know how my family and I are doing where I live now, what I do for fun, and my fondest memories of my time at Osco/Sav-on.

My wife, Dafford, and I have been together for 56 years, and we went to the same elementary and high school. Our oldest, Darnell Jr., has lived in Denver for the past 25 years, and Dennis, the youngest, lives in Chicago. Everyone is healthy, and we are still scratching and surviving the best way we can.

We have been living in the northwest Phoenix Metro area, in Peoria, about 35 to 50 minutes from Scottsdale. Since we live 5 minutes from the Trilogy in Vistancia Golf Course, I play golf at least 2 to 3 times a week. In addition to going to the movies regularly! Regarding vacations, my wife and I enjoy our time at Disney World. I enjoy taking one-day trips to downtown Denver to watch a Bears game with my son and his friends, as well as to Las Vegas and even Los Angeles to see a Dodgers game. 

A fitting closing to "Where Are They Now" is my time at Osco Drug in Chicago. During those 41 years, I have two moments I cherish the most. The day I was promoted to Human Resources manager for the Chicagoland Region, and the day I was promoted to District Manager. If those promotions had not happened, I would not have become a Jewel-Osco D.M., director of human resources, or moved to Boise, ID, as VP of human resources or VP of D.E.I. at SUPERVALU. If I begin to name names, I know I will leave someone out. Therefore, I am incredibly grateful to those who provided these opportunities and to their guidance, which pushed me to be the best I can be!
